Strategy and digital product design for a leading manufacturer of garage and entry doors.


Clopay, an Ohio based company, is one of North America’s leading manufacturers of garage and entry doors. We worked closely with their senior marketing and product teams on the redesign of their door visualizer tool, which allows users to easily imagine Clopay doors on their home. Over the course of six months, I led an agile team of designers and technologists to design, test and optimize the new responsive tool, as well as the launch strategy to unveil it.

The previous visualizer tool had not been updated in over three years and was only accessible on larger screens. This was one of Clopay’s biggest initiatives for the year and the stakes were high. I led a series of strategic workshops with both customers and key client stakeholders to identify primary pain points and use cases. Based on our findings, we focused much of our efforts on the “design” phase of tool, particularly on the smaller screen experience.

Our client relationship was very collaborative, and we often iterated on new ideas with their in-house creative team. We partnered with an off-shore development partner on the final build of the new tool, but my team handled all strategy, design, UX documentation and prototyping throughout the duration of the project.
